A brief 2023 update ! –
I know there hasn’t been many updates in the last 2 years. Its been a crazy time in the good old USA and between the job and the moving there hasn’t been much time to play with the website. In November of 2023 we relocated Odin Technical to the great state of Wyoming. In all honesty I wasn’t sure how much diving I would be doing here in the middle of the country. It turns out there is a small but mighty dive community here, largely produced and kept active by a man I now call a good friend. Randy Schmidt the owner of Aquatic Scuba Adventures based out of Sheridan Wyoming. Randy has been keeping the flame alive . It was a surprise to me to find a SDI dive shop here, SDI being relatively rare here in the states as a general rule. I can’t begin to tell you all how happy I was to find out that i wouldn’t have to get on a plane to get my bubble time. Our dive season is only from about the end of April till October and only that long if your drysuit ready. The winter weather here can be a little chilly ( as i write this at 2200 it is -35 F) as such we don’t do much in the lakes once the cold settles in. I admit I haven’t felt the need to attempt ice diving yet. That said the summer weather here is beautiful and spending the day out at lake De Smet working with students and chasing fish isn’t a hard sell.
I have as is my usual calling card I have produced a small handful of short videos and will be working with the shop to bring not only more dive videos to the site but also educational content, gear reviews and interviews with dive shop owners from all over the world. I hope that 2024 will be great year for everyone and look forward to finally being able to dedicate more time to this project. You can find all of our videos on Rumble.com and I encourage you all to sign up and follow the Aquatic Scuba Adventures channel there.
December 3rd 2021 – Hello again to the world of diving. I spent the Thanksgiving weekend in Monterey California, and despite the obscene prices of just about everything and anything, and the over all snooty persona, its still one of the most beautiful places on earth. There is nothing quite like the Central Coast. I managed to log a dive while in town, which was awesome since its my first dive since returning to the good old USA. Maryland not being a great place for diving due to pretty much black water conditions most of the year ( if not all of it ) has had me high and dry where diving is concerned. I scored, by all measures the visibility was uncommonly good and the water temp was actually a few degrees warmer then normal. It was very relaxed swim through some very scenic underwater vistas from rock formations ( small ones ) to kelp, even a visit from one of the curious local seals. Please check out the video posted on the video page or catch it on our rumble channel. Special Thanks to Adam over at Monterey Bay Aquatics for getting me some real gear in a hurry, they guy even lent me one or two items from his personal stash, truly above and beyond. Also to Autumn from Monterey Bay Scuba who was my guide for the dive. She lead me through a great dive and was friendly and informative. All in all a fantastic swim with the fishes.
August 1st 2021 – So Much to cover in this update. The end of June was hectic to say the least and yet still 8 dives and the completion of two courses achieved. Unfortunately this was our final month in Portugal bringing to an end a three year experience that I can say with out hesitation was one of the best times in my life. I can’t wait to get back and visit the people and the places that made the time there so wonderful.
I just want to take a second here to thank a few people who truly made life there awesome. Joao Gaspar and the whole crew at H20 Lisbon Dive Club. Felipe, George, Big Joao, , the Victors ( there are 2 of them), Jamie, Helga, Fatima, Pedro, and, well, everyone. You guys adopted me as part of the family and from my certification dives for open water to completing my dive master required dives you guys were there. The support and friendship made the journey so much more then it would have been with out you. Luis G , I can’t thank you enough for the brotherhood and kindness. Your the real deal brother, thank you for everything.
In short it has been an honor to know you all and to have spent time with you. Know that you all are welcome in my home if you ever wish to visit.
So my friends my dive news section won’t end here. The entries may be farther apart ( much farther) but the updates will continue to come as the adventures continue. Good luck and god’s speed to you all.
